Come on out to Modern Times tomorrow night and see an awesome show - whee!!!

The Perpetual Motion Roadshow is an indie press touring circuit, an unholy combination of a vaudevillian variety show and a punk rock tour. Each month, three new lively indie performers pile in a car and do seven cities in eight days, doing shows with the bold guarantee: NO BORING READINGS OR YOUR MONEY BACK! Transnational, it loops the northeast May-October and makes runs down the west coast during November-April. Founded by No Media Kings, we've been making our own fun since 2003 -- running on pure volunteer power and dirty dirty gasoline.

Wed. March 21, 7:30 pm. Modern Times (888 Valencia St) w/blue-collar academic Patrick Duggan!

The performers are Joann Riedl and Norman Cristofoli, with opening acts by Cindy Emch and Patrick Duggan. The show starts at 7:30.

Bios:

JoAnn Riedl’s deep, aggressive vocals and percussive, dirty, rock-guitar style hail from Milwaukee. "Her ability to switch from acoustic to electric in an intimate solo setting, along with her raucous, almost punk, approach, has set her apart from her peers with reckless abandon," according to Brian Barney and David Luhrssen of the Milwaukee WI Shepherd Express. Playing live since 1998, Riedl has performed solo, with the backing bands Kicked Out Scout, the Relief, and is a front woman for the Barrettes. She is working on her third full-length album. JoAnn has performed in Canada, Ireland and throughout the US.

Norman Cristofoli is a poet and spoken-word performer and publisher of the Labour of Love literary magazine. He is also the co-founder of the Coffeehouse website for independent artists. However, if all the world is a stage, then he prefers to stay in the tattered old balcony seats, hiding in the shadows, away from the spotlight. He believes that too much emphasis is placed upon the artist, whereas the only thing that truly matters is the art itself. Bios should be buried with the artist... let the art live on.

Suspect in custody in SF hit-and-run

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

New!

(03-20) 11:29 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A man allegedly ran down and killed a pedestrian in the Mission District early today after the two got into an argument, police said.

The suspect attempted to flee after the incident but was caught by police, said Sgt. Neville Gittens.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the suspect, whose name has not been released, was driving southbound on Valencia Street and attempted to make a left turn eastbound onto 16th Street, Gittens said.

"The victim and his friend were crossing the street -- we don't know what took place exactly ... but words were exchanged, and the suspect stopped his car and got out," Gittens said. "More words were exchanged, then the suspect got back in his vehicle."

The suspect began driving toward the two pedestrians, Gittens said, at which point the victim began punching the car. The pedestrians took off walking northbound on Valencia Street, Gittens said, but the suspect drove his car up onto the sidewalk and hit the victim with the vehicle, throwing his body into the air.

The suspect drove away but tried to park nearby, Gittens said. Police set up a perimeter of the area and were able to detain the man, he said.

The incident is being investigated by the department's homicide division, Gittens said. The suspect's name will be released when he is formally booked on criminal charges, he said.
