Just announced: new Vagabondage Album!

OMG folks - I'm so excited to tell you about the new live Vagabondage record. Sure we're just about done with the epic studio album Whiskey & Starlight, but first we made and released this super charming snapshot of a live show. Six songs long, full of excited audience and us really being in the moment - it's a document of a great show at a tiny local theater in San Francisco called the Boxcar. Hence 'Live at the Boxcar.' The album cover photo was taken by SF photographer Carrina Maree at this years Junkstock and, well, I'm just kind of in love with all of it.

The final mixing was done at Saturn Studios / Ransom Note Records in SF - who are the same folks we are doing the studio album with and man I just couldn't be happier. They're located in Upper Castro in SF, queer owned and operated and so I like to think there is a healthy dose of magic SF fog and homo dust glittering up the album.

We are pricing this one pretty low at $3, mainly because it's such a labor of love and the folks who helped us make it gave us a huge break money wise, doing work for us either sliding scale or free. So we wanted to pass some of that on. A lot of our fans have asked us to release something live and so this is really a little love letter to those folks who come out and throw the goat with us, dance along to songs and just make us know why we do the art that we do.

Now we're just working to get the word out about the EP and hoping that you all like it as much as we do. If you like it, please tell your friends :) and heck, please tell us!

Right now it's mainly being sold on bandcamp (click the album cover above for the link) since they have the most artist friendly policies. It will be released on itunes and those places soon but we're having some tech issues with our normal distribution service.

So I have a show tonight woohoo! Rhubarb Whiskey is bringing murder ballads and accordion craziness to the grand reopening gala for Smythe's Accordion Shop. This also coincides nicely with amazing weather and Oakland's Art Murmur tonight. Plus the show is packed from Noon - 10 with fancy accordion calendar babes playing music. You know you wanna. Performers will include: Dorian Wood, Christian Kuffner, Big Lou the Accordion Princess, Luz Gaxiola, Nada Lewis, Amber Lee Baker, Renee de la Prade, Tara Linda, Mad Maggie, Salane C. Schultz, Rhubarb Whiskey & more

But so in looking up tonights show and updating the band calendars I realized that there are a tons of things coming up. So I thought I would share. xo

a little while back Vagabondage started this collaboration with Mixman Shawn. The result - well we're pretty happy with it. And it's already been a bit of a hit on BBC Asia radio. I'm beyond excited about it. Please give it a listen and if you like it - share it around. It's even for sale on itunes and stuff. xo

this was a very good time. the faire people were generous and sweet and amazing. the crowd was full of kind friendly people, kids and families and punk rockers and geeks and a good damn time was had by all. my most and least favorite was of course the steampunk area. so many pretty things. but so many people crammed into such a tiny area.

here is some evidence from the day and the set [community profile] vagabondage  did. We had a seriously good friggin time.

all of the evidence is over on flickr

time is feeling so whirlwindy that i can barely think. so i will go day by day.

friday - work was cukoo crazy and i was rush rush rushing and thinking to myself - was i really in new orleans just four days ago? - but there was gypsy punk to be had. so i ran home got myself some acceptable fashiony goodness, confirmed that the video camera was charged and ready for filming and zipped right back to the same neighborhood i work in :) to have a whole different kind of fun. met up with [livejournal.com profile] postmaudlin for a wonderful partner in crime / date for the night, and dancy danced and filmy filmed and fell in love with [livejournal.com profile] humanwine and looked at all of the pretty things and got short but sweet facetime with [livejournal.com profile] whittles ,  [livejournal.com profile] fightingwords , [livejournal.com profile] mc_kingfish , [livejournal.com profile] rivetpepsquad and a few other folks that i am sure have LJ's but i don't know them. home late (as usual from a hubba) and got all the videos up on the youtubes. phew and crash out.

sat - wake up early since rooster has an early film shoot. make the coffee, open the windows that the hard morning air that smacks your face and says wake up! this day is waiting! did some minor house cleaning, physical therapy for the arms and accordion practice. cranky and grumpy with arm pain. probably due to stress of sunday photo shoot. also know that the vagabondage logo is being looked at by the most awesome [livejournal.com profile] sagahar and maybe finalized, omg yay and nervous - what will it look like - squee!!! art for hubba postcard by the always impressive R.Black featuring vagabondage comes in - time to figure out how to get it printed (with thankful help from [livejournal.com profile] mc_kingfish ) and there is so much bandy band my head is swimming. rooster and i take the lucky dog to the park and then make a tasty tasty dinner and watch Ace in the Hole - but with commentary on - so i still need to watch it again. Damn Kirk Douglas is a sexy motherfucker.

sunday - eek ack eek. time change hell. wake up running late. suitcase of loaner clothes packed. coffee had. mid level anxiety about loaner clothes smelling like smoke and having to pay damages and being bankrupted. run out, pick up loaner corset, happy face, no time for coffee, sad face, stop by store for bread to go with lunch for crew, damn traffic ARGH ARGH ARGH, and in oakland only 15 minutes after [livejournal.com profile] elusis and [livejournal.com profile] lemonmerchant have arrived. [livejournal.com profile] elusis being the fantastic fucking art director. (pictured below). once i am there i take a deep breath and chill the fuck out. fancy is made, wine is opened, clothes are played with, and smoking is delayed for when clothes are zipped away safe in the suitcase. later red beans and rice rock my world, we all jam a little together, and then once it's just me and punk we put away two more bottles of too expensive wine and end the night with a lot of yay.

monday - omg i love having mondays off. wake up to the new vagabondage logo. HOLY HOT DAMN ITS FUCKING COOL. and hold on now that the shoot is done and i've seen the new logo - my arms hurt less. hilarious. wake up slow with a mean fucking headache and coffee helps. putter around doing art work and de-cat hairing the loaners and checking everything back in. drop rooster off at another film shoot, head into town to return stuff - whoohoo no damages. meet up with [livejournal.com profile] smallstages for coffee that turns into a snack that turns into dinner - she so tricked me! :) then to punks for regular monday practice and to do a first run through of the pics and then a few songs jam - damn love that upright bass, and blackened catfish and then to hubba to see [livejournal.com profile] elusis do her awesome singy thing. so good. SO FUCKING GOOD. and then home and rooster is catching a cold from too many outdoor film shoots.

today - back at work trying to get into the groove and feeling too hyper. dinner later with a friend and then weds - sun every night is zorn zorn zorn. it's a little overwhelming. but damn i am excited.

The Vagabondage performy show for Chinese New Years was really really fun. And since it was in the home of a professional photographer - she documented in the nicest ways - there are videos over on the youtube account - but this eye candy was just to fun to not post.

Yowza kids - there is some crazy shit happening these days in the land of the drunken hobo vagabonds

First off - our real shiny brand new URL is live - http://www.vagabondageband.com/ - do you love it? we kinda do :)

It was internationally renowned classical guitarists, a fancy bass clarinet player that we once saw open for Jason Webley, a greek guitar duo and us - can i say it fucking ruled! and omg the fresh from the market dumplings dayum!

there is a new youtube playlist with these shows in it - woot!

and then this thursday we're gonna be all fancy on the local rockstar radio program Drinks with Tony! wooty woot! tune in online at www.piratecatradio.org

and lastly - we just now found out that we'll be performing with the Donny Vomit of the Coney Island Sideshow at the Hotel Utah Saloon on Feb 12th @ 9:30pm. More info on this show as we get it!

September 12: QOM Celebrates 4th Birthday with VAGABONDAGE

The Queer Open Mic is turning FOUR!  That’s right, we’ve survived our rambunctious touch-everything-and-scream-like-we’re-on-fire toddler years, and are transforming full-throttle into precocious loud-mouth know-it-alls.  But first, let’s have a birthday party!  And how better to celebrate than to have Vagabondage — a band spearheaded by our venue’s founder Cindy Emch — as our feature?

About Vagabondage

Walking the dirty streets of the big city and the farm towns, Vagabondage sings you tales of lonely alleyways, late night busrides and unfortunate incidents with spicy spicy food. Comprised of a poet, an actor, a storyteller, a ham, a vaudevillian, an accordion player, two guitar players, a kazoo player, and two singers, this duo will sing songs to make you laugh, cry, and raise your glass and sing along.

Yep!  Ain’t no doubt, this night’s gonna make San Francisco one proud momma of an open mic.

So bring your cupcakes and raise your glass!

fucking great

great vagabodage rehearsal tonight. my energy started low after a rough day in corporate land - but come on - three maybe four new songs? three of which are gonna be in our lineup on a regular basis. so gorgeous and sad and full of trains and gutter glitter. its a good.

new song up on myspace likely tomorrow - had some tech challenges tonight.
emchy: (Default)
so last night punk and i made the best chicken. it was both of our first times making a whole chicken without someone with the knowledge on hand. rooster is the regular chicken cooker in house. so i thought of garlic under the skin and he raised me some rosemary under the skin and some lemon slices as well. omg! and then i threw together an ad hoc stuffing with garlic croutons, garlic, onion, rosemary, salt, pepper, mushrooms and marsala wine. holy damn. amazing chicken. then on the side some salad with pea pods and poppyseed dressing with soynuts and sunflower seeds and a side of asapargus steamed and then tossed with lemon, butter and goat asiagio cheese. yum right?

so because i missed my rooster with the 14 hours of band yesterday - i wanted to try to recreate the chicken plus make her some rhubarb pie. i had made some rhubarb pie on thurs night when i got home from the jason webley show so i could have it for the fancy and high pressure work picnic and she helped but got no pie because the slice i saved for her landed on my apt stairs facedown when the plastic bag holding the vodka broke open and spilled a literal gallon of vodka in the front lobby of my apt. good times. so i wanted to make her chicken and pie.

the rhubarb pie was looking good - but i realized i was a little short on rhubarb. so i threw in the bing cherries that were left. mmmm still a bit sparse. and so i threw in... strawberries. now i am usually VERY against strawberries in rhubarb pie. i believe that the sweet overpowers the charming tart and i get really fucking cranky about it. however desperate times my friends. and so... it turned out well. something in my recipe is making the guts of the pie juicier than is my liking - but it turned out super well and most importantly rooster loved the pie, the chicken and the stuffing.

so there you have it - a rare cooking post as i spent most of the day listening to the dixie chicks, nick cave and pj harvey while cooking up a storm and then eating while watching the six feet under dvds. its a good prep for going back to work.

tomorrow night is band practice. wooooeee i am excited. vagabondage has some great new songs to work out and nail down. i totally am a geek for it.
emchy: (Default)
yesterday was all music, good cooking and recording songs. sadly three hours of work got lost. happily i can play the washboard and the mandolin got fixed. wanna hear the fruits of the rhubarb labor? www.myspace.com/rhubarbwhiskey for the new song. Tell me what you think yes please? I wrote this one solo and do the lead vocals so... i feel a little shy :)

and stay tuned - more vagabondage songs and shows are coming soon. sounds like in addition to the santa rosa show on the 24th and the hubba uptown show at the end of august we have a sorta mid august show with the cats from accordion apocalypse. so exciting. plus we go into the studio on 8/10 and folks we have a full albums worth of songs that we can lay down on the proverbial wax. so damn cool.

i can't even start to think about how this is changing my life. my heart is so full of mixed everything right now. the music is keeping me afloat.

today is about dog to the park, practicing new songs, baking a chicken and maybe some silent film fest. most important part of the day - taking it one step at a time and just letting myself enjoy the time and not rushing it. i am so so so tired of the rushing.
