beauty in the tragic.
this is something that catches my eye daily. there is always some undercurrent in things that are truly beautiful that would seemingly pull them away from their core and yet somehow enhances. the most tragic things often reveal beautiful, intimate and intense things. objects, people or occasions of great beauty are often undercut by a sadness that magnifies the precious and the delicate. there is something in that. something that the people who focus so much on perfection miss. it's the imperfections that create the things that make life the most perfect

day dreaming.
i can't much say day dreaming without thinking of myself on a lawn on a lake in the midwest with a breeze in my hair, grass in my toes and the smell of green lake water in my nose. the reflections in those waters make dreams happen.

down by law.
this film by jim jarmusch helped change how i saw the world and what good could come of a good pair of shoes

exploring musical landscapes.
i love so much music. zorn in particular in conjunction with mingus and coltrane helped train my ear to look for the world the music was creating. the trains and the mountains and the thunderstorms. music as a force of nature. to be explored and adventured like a road trip and the most fantastic voyage. every song can take you somewhere. it's up to our own hearts how free we make ourselves for those travels.

oh flappers. oh you 1920s girls busting out of victorian corsets drinking the moonshine and cutting your hair. walking headfirst and headstrong into political movements and offices where suddenly the jobs you could get were given less respect. i love the flapper for her freedom, her dancing, her revelry and her passion. sometimes the zeitgeist to just have some fun is the thing a woman needs. there are other more complicated socio economic pieces to all of this. but when i think flapper i like to think of this body ownership, this empowerment, this attempt at social freedoms.

my land of ghosts where they all light campfires and jump over fireworks. i wish it could be that easy again but then again - its never been that hard.

theda bara
such a dream. an actress that can boil your blood with a look. *swoon

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their lives, and all of a sudden you think, "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers, putting yours in their places, and then post the result in your journal. Please elaborate on the questions which would benefit from elaboration! One-word-answers seldom help anyone out.

1. Name: Cindy (sometimes known as Emchy, Emch, Cin, Sin, Avatar of Sexual Chaos, monkey and bunny)

2. Age: 33

3. Location: San Francisco, California, USA. I moved to the Bay Area in 1995 - went back to Michigan and finished school then returned in 1998 and haven't left yet.

4. Occupation: Accordion player / poet for the art job. Web marketing monkey - usually involving words and films - for the day job. I can get detailed in that - but yea - I try to help get indie and important films out into the world to help make it all a better place. a global community. and i try not to get my own soul crushed my day job minutiae in the process.

5. Partner: Rooster. never on livejournal but holder of the account [profile] muy_macha. she is my partner in life and in crime.

6. Kids: nooe

7. Brothers/Sisters: My brother Dave lives back in Michigan. He has a house, a wife, four kids, two dogs, a pool and a camaro. Until the holiday season of 07/08 he also had a mullet. He is awesome. He manages a lumber yard.

8. Pets: Lucky is the mutt dog that we got from the pound FIVE years ago. Cluecat is the farm cat kitten I got in Holt Michigan in 1995. Moses is the big black bad ass cat that Rooster found in a bush back in 1994 under a SF Victorian in the Mission.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
touring poetry
getting healthier

10. What did you go to school for? I majored in english with minors in fllm study and queer studies. i now think it's hilarious that people say english degrees don't help you get jobs. all of my jobs so far have ended up being EXACTLY tied to what i studied just because i loved it. in part i blame my father. when i was a junior in college i had to give him a presentation (yes with print outs and slides) of how this degree would help me find jobs. since he was helping pay for school i went all out - since if he wasn't convinced the pressure to change my degree or move into the teaching program was going to be fierce. I think that made me take what i was studying and how it could translate to the real world more seriously.

11. Parents: they're living in a house in the town i grew up in. sadly not the one on the lake anymore.

12. Who are some of your closest friends? Rooster, Punk, and a nice inner circle of LJ folks who i am proud to consider family.

And there you have it! I am happy to answer questions should the above engender any.
emchy: (beloved)
Amarama says "I am sick of all of my friends hating themselves! I know everyone is down on themselves because the world is bad and mean to all of us, a lot. However, I can think of a million things I love about everyone who is my friend. I'm going to write some things I love about myself, and then I want you all to reply with ten things you love about yourselves, too. Yes, it's a little like group therapy. However, you need to do it! Do it!"  I have to agree. Somehow this morning this feels like the hardest thing evr.

Things I love about my own self:

1. How much I care about people making and prioritizing their art.

2. My love of lakes.

3. The songs I am writing. It's a talent I didn't know I had and it feels like a huge gift.

4. My diplomacy and concern - honest concern - for other people's feelings

You Are An ENFJ

The Giver

You strive to maintain harmony in relationships, and usually succeed.

Articulate and enthusiastic, you are good at making personal connections.

Sometimes you idealize relationships too much - and end up being let down.

You find the most energy and comfort in social situations ... where you shine.

In love, you are very protective and supporting.

However, you do need to "feel special" - and it's quite easy for you to get jealous.

At work, you are a natural leader. You can help people discover their greatest potential.

You would make a good writer, human resources director, or psychologist.

How you see yourself: Trusting, idealistic, and expressive

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Bossy, inappropriate, and loud

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADEUP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.
When you're finished, post this little paragraph in your journal and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.
(Only if you so desire,of course)

You are about to have your own bands CD cover. Follow these directions to the letter.

Go to...

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post. Also, pass it along in your own journal because its more amusing that way.

Wanna see mine?

emchy: (Default)
One word to describe me... just one single word. Leave it in my comments section. Then post this original message on your journal and see how many strange and interesting things people say about you.
