Try GoldWave. It's got a 30 day free trial. Also I think my Mac has GarageBand and that can possibly do what you're looking for. We'd have to experiment. I'll have to think about songs that remind me of home. Not sure about the wireless problem. Could be any number of things. Hard to troubleshoot without being there to poke around and try different things, but unfortunately don't have the time to do that right now. Have someone savvy with interwebs come have a look, that's my advice. Or just keep trying stuff if you have the patience.

Connect your computer via ethernet to your router. go to your internet bar and type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. If you haven't already set up a password, then the default is "admin". Log into yon router. Then you'll have to poke around with settings there to change it so it'll only accept your ID wirelessly. I could explain it on here, but I don't want to type for the next ____. But at least you can log in and look at your router (if you didn't know how to do this already)

I've done some successful audio editing lately using the free version of Wavepad (http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html)

I also have a bunch of different free audio converters if you don't have your audio in a format that Wavepad will edit. You should be able to search them at download.com: JHymn, dBpowerAMP, Switch.

There are a lot of songs that take me home, but the one that comes to mind right off the bat is that haunting 80's hit "Under the Milky Way" by The Church . I know the lyrics mention Memphis, but in Northern New York you can just not believe the size of the sky, the brightness of the stars... and the sense of being so remote you are lost to the world, an idea that becomes something of a "loveless fascination."

Once, at 2 am in February, I saw red, yellow, blue streamers coming out of the middle of the night sky like a huge maypole being woven in the universe above... aurora borealis that made me doubt my own eyes.
