VOLUNTEER Coordinator
Position Announcement
ABOUT FRAMELINE
Founded in 1979, Frameline’s mission is to strengthen the diverse LGBT community and further its visibility by supporting and promoting a broad array of cultural representations and artistic expression in film, video and other media arts. Frameline’s integrated programs provide critical funding for emerging LGBT filmmakers, reach hundreds of thousands with a collection of more than 200 films distributed nationally, and create an international stage for the world’s best queer film through the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival and additional screenings and cinematic events.
THE POSITION
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, coordinating and supervising 400 to 500 volunteers before and during Frameline31: San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, ensuring that all volunteer shifts are covered and that all Film Festival staff are suitably supported by volunteers. In addition, the position is responsible for the supervision of the Volunteer Assistant/Intern.
Reports to: Operations Director
Salary: $6,000
Status: Temporary
Schedule: April 16–June 29, full time
July 2-13, part time
QUALIFICATIONS
• Effective communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Detail-oriented and demonstrated attention to accuracy
• Responsive to unpredictable workflow and hours
• Fluency in Macintosh-based applications including MS Word and Filemaker
• Previous Volunteer Management experience required
• Familiarity with LGBT Community
• Sense of Humor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Recruit, train, coordinate and supervise 400 to 500 volunteers
• Supervise and train Volunteer Assistant/Intern
• Maintain Filemaker Pro volunteer database
• Coordinate two volunteer orientation meetings
• Coordinate with Festival staff members to determine their volunteer needs
• Process volunteer requests
• Schedule volunteers and disseminate assignment sheets
• Assist venue House Managers during evening screenings
• Manage volunteers at key events
• Attend daily meetings during Film Festival
• Help identify and train Volunteer Captains
• Compile Volunteer Captain information packets
• Coordinate Volunteer thank-you party
• Complete post-Film Festival written wrap report
• Compile volunteer evaluations

Public Relations & OUTREACH COORDINATOR

THE POSITION
The Public Relations & Outreach Coordinator will work closely with Frameline’s outside Public Relations firm (Larsen Associates) and internal Film Festival program team to prepare press materials and maintain communication with press contacts. The Public Relations & Outreach Coordinator also spearheads the Film Festival’s on-line outreach effort and supervises the Publicity Assistant/Interns.

July 1-31, part-time

• Familiarity with local and national press outlets
• Familiarity with film festival operations
• Effective communication and organizational skills

• Prepare, duplicate and distribute press packets
• Prepare, duplicate and distribute photo CDs
• Prepare, duplicate, and distribute clip reels
• Coordinate press screenings and press conference (with Larsen Associates)
• Staff press door at Film Festival venues
• Respond to general press inquiries
• Train and supervise Publicity Assistant/Interns
• Oversee volunteers and drivers
• Manage writing and web posting of daily Film Festival e-newsletter
• Maximize online marketing potential for Frameline31 as a whole as well as
individual programs and screenings
• Research and contact Bay Area community and cultural organizations
that maintain websites and listservs
• Target specific sites and groups with info on specific Festival programs

FESTIVAL PUBLICATIONS MANAGING EDITOR

The Position
Frameline is seeking an energetic and independent Managing Editor with a passion for LGBT film. The
Managing Editor reports to the Managing Director. This is a temporary position starting March 15,
2007 and ending on May 31, 2007. The position will be part-time from March 15 to March 30, fulltime
from April 1 to April 30 and part-time from May 1 to May 31. The salary will be commensurate with
the candidate’s abilities and experience.
The Managing Editor oversees all phases of the production process ensuring production and distribution
of the annual Program Magazine and Mini-Guide for Frameline31, the San Francisco International LGBT
Film Festival. The Managing Editor must oversee these activities in a timely manner, coordinating
efforts with copy editors and authors. This position reports to the Managing Director.
Qualifications and Qualities:
• Bachelors Degree in a relevant field
• Two years relevant publishing experience
• A proven track record in managing and coordinating the production of similar publications
• Extensive skills and background in proofreading and editing
• Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks
• Flexible, creative, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Able to meet deadlines and ensure completion of projects on-time or ahead of schedule
• Must be proficient in Macintosh, Word, Excel, and Acrobat
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Film or Film Festival experience is desirable
• A sense of humor
Responsibilities:
Coordinate all logistics pertaining to the publication of Program Magazine and Mini-Guide content
including:
• Managing submissions for authors and editors
• Ensuring the smooth flow of content and proofs to authors, copy editors, and senior staff
• Ensuring accuracy of specs
• Ensuring deadlines are met

Oversee the development and timely delivery of content including:
• Program notes
• Feature articles
• Promotional and informational copy
• Advertising
• Schedules
• Lists (board, staff, volunteer, donor/member)
• Indexes
• Write selected content
Administration of contracted relations with contributors, printers, and other vendors
• Coordinating communications between vendors and Frameline
• Keeping senior staff and vendors/contractors informed of production status
• Coordinating and attending meetings as needed to outline project, production, and procedures
Coordination of the compilation and preparation of accepted materials for copy-editing
• Consulting with Managing Director about arrangement and compilation of issue contents
• Maintaining liaison among various contributors and senior staff
• Ensuring accuracy of specs
• Evaluating of materials for printing and electronic production
• Performing final quality check on final files before releasing to printer
Proofreading of copyedited materials as required at various stages of the publication process
• Consulting with Managing Director about house style
• Providing liaison between Frameline and contracted publisher/printer about approved
specifications
• Representing the publications to printer to ensure quality of printed product
Supervision of part-time interns for specific purposes as needed
