Jewish Vocational Service helps individuals and businesses achieve their employment goals by providing the skills necessary for success in today’s workplace.  Individuals making the transition into new work environments benefit from JVS career and employment counseling, job placement, English instruction and occupational skills training programs.  JVS is a non-sectarian, not-for profit corporation founded in 1973.  JVS is a nationally recognized innovator in workforce development, and plays a leadership role in collaborative employment and training efforts throughout San Francisco.

Under the direct supervision of the Nonprofit Sector Manager, and in close collaboration with Nonprofit Sector team members and Employers, the Program Coordinator coordinates all aspects of the Transgender employment program with JVS and LGBT Center staff and other community and public agencies to ensure its smooth and effective operation.   The Program Coordinator will also provide job search and placement assistance to Transgender Program clients. 

Responsibilities:

 

Program Coordination

 

  • Manages performance and compliance for Transgender Program contract objectives. This includes coordinating with other JVS and LGBT Center staff and community and public agencies, ensuring the collection, tracking, and reporting of appropriate data; and conducting analysis in a timely manner to monitor contract performance, report on findings, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Represents JVS at appropriate community forums; maintaining superior customer service with funders, staff, collaborating agencies, employers, and participants at all times.
  • Outreaches to appropriate referral sources and the general public to attract appropriate clients to Transgender Program.  Ensures appropriate client recruitment, enrollment, case management, placement and follow-up. 
  • Assists in ongoing program development and planning.

 

 

Program Administration

  • Ensures compliance with agency and funding reporting requirements including contract documentation, program statistics, and client case files.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting client progress and employer engagement activities to MIS department.  Maintains participant case records, program data, and other statistical records as needed.  Assists in preparation for programs’ audits and monitoring visits.
  • Participates in the sector, agency and community meetings.
  • Participate in Counselor of the Day system; participate in all Counselor of the Day meetings and contribute as needed to resource guide.
  • Other duties as needed.

 

Employment Counseling/Job Search & Placement Assistance:

  • Provides job search and placement assistance to Transgender Program clients and follow-up services to placement maintaining contact with supervisors and clients for up to 12 months.  Makes appropriate job referrals and assists with the job match.
  • Assesses clients’ occupational skills and interests as they pertain to the local job market and assists them in setting and reaching appropriate employment objectives.  Provides career, vocational and employment counseling, and assists in the development of an Employment Action Plan by determining clients’ educational and professional qualifications and transferable skills. 
  • Assists clients in identifying appropriate short and long term employment objectives; maps out strategies for reaching employment objectives; provides corresponding job development; and supports the client throughout the job search.
  • Arrange for participant support services as necessary: counseling, crisis intervention, childcare, transportation, medical/dental services, access to JVS library, and employment workshops.

Workshop Facilitation and Classroom Instruction:

  • Coordinates and facilitate job search workshops tailored specifically for Transgender Program job seekers.  Workshops include the following topics: resume and cover letter writing, completing employment applications, interviewing skills; networking skills; salary negotiation; effective communication in a work place and etc.
  • Coordinates and conducts individual and group instruction through demonstration, lecture, guest speakers, cooperative learning activities and other modalities of teaching which address learning style differences and potential learning disabilities.

Employer Account Management:

  • As part of the Nonprofit sector team, provides on-going occupational research of the local labor market.  Identifies organizations with potential growth.  Performs labor market analysis, and communicates the information to clients and team members.
  • In collaboration with the LGBT Center, performs on-going outreach to sector employers, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with hiring managers. Promotes JVS services to prospective sector employers and community groups.
  • Assists employers to assure the successful integration of workers into the workforce. Responsible for managing assigned employer accounts. Provides presentations to employers, site visits, and organizes employer panels.

Community Relations and Coordination:

  • Acts as a liaison among JVS and employers, and other collaborative entities.
  • Conducts outreach and builds partnerships with other JVS staff and collaborative agencies.
  • Represents JVS in related community forums and at nonprofit networking events.
  • Provides outplacement services and develops customized training to employers, as appropriate.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Experience):

 

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating services for adults with barriers to employment in an employment and training and/or vocational education setting.
  • Excellent project management, trouble-shooting, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience providing staffing services or job development.
  • Experience in employment counseling, job development, and placement with persons from various professional and ethnic backgrounds. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bay Area’s labor market; strengthen employer partnerships and support their workforce needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including public speaking, networking, and written communications.
  • Well organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet goal objectives; excellent team player. True attention to detail, ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge.
  • Computer proficient in MS Office or similar program, understanding of concept of relational database, competent in using Internet and excellent research abilities.
  • B.A./B.S degree in a related field preferred.

Salary & Benefits: $39K – 43K, DOE. Excellent benefits, including medical and dental coverage, retirement plan; life and long-term disability insurance; four weeks paid vacation, federal and Jewish holidays.
