unlike the completly bitchy and misogynistic treatment that me and my table of female pals got at harveys post queer open mic last week (from not one but TWO waiters) tonight we ventured into north beach unexpectedly, and once again got some of the best restaurant service / experience ever.

so based on the high winds and dropping temps of SF today as the sun set, at the last minute we scrapped our bonfire on the beach picnic idea for valentines day and got caught in the decision... do we order in from the elite cafe, time honored sf cajun/creole tradition or do we go back to north beach, land of horrible parking and worse tourists to go to andrew jaegers house of jazz. as usual with me involved, jazz won. add to that the food at jaegers always being way above the bar, and the last time i overspent at the elite cafe, i was sorely disappointed in my over breaded and food that was more burnt than blackened.

so we went. food was good, though the appetizer sampler was more variety based and not as much sheer deliciousness as other specific appetizers like the crab cakes. i decided to keep the variety theme going, especially since, for once, i wasn't in a crab mood and that was the fish of the night. so i got the sampler. amazing red beans and rice. jambalaya that was rich enough that i thought there may have even been cheese in it, but i think it was just good spice choices, and catfish that came close to rita's for melt in my mouth good. i couldn't stuff the gumbo so i have it for later. and the chocolate cake was a bit dry without all of the sundae pieces. but that said, it was the best and moistest 'dry' cake i have had in a long time.

jazz band was grand. i mean they were a little heavy on the upbeat songs, but they were great. sax player did a solo just for us, and the whole band seemed taken by our attention to the music. when the mister made my request for st. james infirmary blues, she was told by the drummer, well we try to play more upbeat, but if we don't all know that one, we'll try to fin another angsty one to play. hilarious - even my jazz taste is angsty.

amazing service from our waitress who gave us not one, but two glasses of complimentary champagne each. one was for the holiday, one was for slow (but not really) bar service while we waited. one of the bartenders was out. honestly, couldn't even tell.

we got some serious gaybot loving. the food server i am pretty sure was family, as were a few other waiters. food server chick told us (but no one else in our room) that the original actor who played chewbaca was in the next booth over. she got his autograph. she thought it would make our night more special to know. how cool is that?

seriously, amazing food, even better service and overall, the best and most romantic night out in forever. i heart andrew jaegers house of seafood & jazz.

anyway - helped us decide something. this year is the first one ever since we've met that we aren't tied to the queer film festival during our anniversary. so... we're going to new orleans. for a week. i want to put my tourist $$ in there. to that city i have been to so many times now. that i love. that i will always love for how amazing it and the people who live there are. and continue to be. awesome. so excited. it will be seven years for us. and our first real vacation together that isn't caught up in families. i had better make sure to not have performances during that week or crap something will have to change.
