ok. whiny. also, it feels like the new orleans news is starting to be more controlled, ie the presidential propaganda machine and news black out feels like it is beginning. ugh.

that's because it is. the president of jefferson parish said yesterday that FEMA cut their emergency communication lines. they were reconnected and he posted armed guards to protest them. the feds don't want local officials talking to the media anymore.

google "broussard jefferson parish". he was interviewed on "meet the press" and talked about FEMA turning away a truck full of water sent by wal-mart and cutting their comm lines. i can't think of any reason why FEMA would do such a thing to local gov't officials other than trying to keep them from talking about what's really going on there. after all, chertoff, the head of homeland security, claims his lack of action was because he read in the newspaper tuesday morning that nola had been spared, and michael brown, the head of FEMA, had been running around saying everything was going well, claiming he didn't know anything about what was happening at the convention center. the local media--and more importantly, local officials (nagin, landrieu, broussard)--are blowing the feds cover: they're there, they're pissed, and their anger is being broadcast all over network and cable news outlets. you know the feds don't want the truth to come out.
