Tonights open mic was delightful. Full of animal stories and smut and friendly and exciteds. I am sad to see Sherilyn leaving but it was a grand exit to a wonderful couple of years. Which brings me to the official announcement. QOM has a new host joining me in the twice a month adventure.

QOM Launches Starts 3rd Year with a New Host

Queer Open Mic starts it’s third year running with a change at the helm. Beginning on 8/24/07 founder / Host Cindy Emch will be joined in the hosting duties by Mollena Williams. Mollena Williams, a powerful actor / writer, and self decribed “no clue having maniac / fucked up retired drunkard” is looking forward to helping encourage the adventuresome mayhem of the Queer Open Mic. The new dynamic duo are committed to poetry, performance, and smutty hilarity to ensue every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at Vince and Pete’s Three Dollar Bill Café. $1 - $5 donations benefit the featured reader. All queers of all stripes are welcome and encourage to perform one piece of awesome that is five minutes or less. Sign up is at 7:30, performances begin at 8pm. (PS – the hosts like it when you  say hi if you’re new
J ).

For their first QOM as hosts Mollena and Cindy are geeky excited to welcome Jennifer Blowdryer, punk rock singer, fancy pants literati, and local legend.

She’s been behaving foolishly on stage and in front of cameras for over 35 years, and has no plans to stop, so don’t bother asking. Feature Jennifer Blowdryer

Jennifer Blowdryer began her celebrity adventure as the singer of the punk bands The Blowdryers and White Trash Debutantes. The new millennium has found the super cool Blowdryer creating the legendary book “Good Advice for Young Trendy People of All Ages,” writing a food column for the New York Press, working on the “86’d Project,” performing at spoken word gigs too numerous to mention and producing plays at Theater Rhino(SF) and the Bowery Poetry Club (NYC). She also publishes a zine called Persiflage with Alvin Orloff, and is at work on the anthology “Truly Blue: An Anthology of writing by sex workers and even a trick (I’m Not in The Habit of Paying People To Leave, But In Your Case I’ll Make an Exception).”

Host Cindy Emch

Cindy Emch is a highway poet.  In the last five years, a rumor has
sprung up at truck stop diners that she single-handedly dug a canal from
the Great Lakes to the Pacific Ocean and sent out handmade invitations
to all of America to go swimming.  The rumor is false; it was a river,
not a canal.  When she's not unearthing pavement, Emchy can be found
writing reams of valentines and love letters to her adventures on a daily
basis.  She calls them poems.  Her words are salty and crunchy like
sweat and gravel, and they tell queer mossy secrets.

Cindy's work has been been published in the LodeStar Quarterly, There
Journal, Tough Girls 2: More Down and Dirty Dyke Erotica edited by Lori
Selke, It's So You: 35 Women on Fashion, Beauty and Personal Style
edited by Michelle Tea, and numerous chapbooks. She co-hosted the Aunty
Cindy and Unka Lynnee show with Lynn Breedlove on Pirate Cat Radio from
2004 to 2007, and has been a curator for the National Queer Arts
Festival since 1995. Emch is the founder and co-host of San Francisco's
twice-a-month Queer Open Mic, which is a central resource and
performance space for the queer literary scene.
