Morticia and Gomez are passionately in love, and are deeply concerned with the well-being of their children. Though they all share an obsession and interest in death, dying, and other gothic and macabre subjects, the Addamses are not evil people (in several of the TV episodes, Gomez is willing to donate large sums to worthy causes, to the shock of the already shell-shocked visitors), and usually restrict their ghoulish activities to within their own family. Most of the Addamses' neighbours are less than understanding, however. Within the larger community, the Addamses are viewed as oddballs, dangerous, or worse.

David is famous for bringing the gothic image to the pop culture world due to wearing it onstage and off, though he does not lay claim to intentionally being such an influence. From the beginning of The Damned (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Damned) in 1976 however, he affected a vampire-like appearance onstage, with chalk-white makeup and formal dress. The Damned are also generally regarded as one of the founders of gothic rock. By 1979, Vanian's vocals had expanded from the high-baritone barks of the early records to a range including a smooth, proto-Gothic croon. Their 1980 release "The Black Album" is a post-punk classic and is quintessentially gothic, complete with dark melodies and themes and a even a touch of classical music adding a medieval flair.
