Coming this Friday to a quirky art cafe near you in San Francisco is a once in a lifetime shot to hear, see and maybe even participate in some honest to goodness old fashioned, and even new fashioned edgy avante garde crazy pants writing goodtimes at the Queer Open Mic. It's a hootenanny people and we're waiting for you! Featuring is the fantastic fucking Lauren Wheeler. Pirate by day, go go dancer by night and poet by the wee hours of the morning, she will capture your ears and heart like the sirens of yore... though with arguably more tattoos than those boring mermaids.
Cindy Emch (that's me) and Sherilyn Connelly will be your hosts with the mosts so come on over, hear our newest fancy Queer Open Mic music mix as the warm up and bring some weird performance shit to share. After all - it'll be post election, what better time to let your freak flag fly? See you there...

and now - a bit more about our lovely feature
Lauren Wheeler is a recovering slam poet who competed at the National Poetry Slam in 1998, as a member of the renegade Team SF-Mission District, and again in 1999, as a member and the coach of Team Ithaca, NY. She has featured at Cornell University, where she studied English Literature, as well as Los Angeles, Miami, and throughout the Bay Area.
Lauren was the curator and host of two poetry series in Ithaca, Tongue & Groove at Stella's Wine and Whiskey Bar and Re-Verse at the Oak Café, and was a core organizer of the ForWord Girls poetry and spoken word festival in San Francisco. Her work has appeared in Lodestar Quarterly and Other Magazine, and she has self-published two chapbooks, anti-matter and mygration.
Lauren is a member of San Francisco-based go-go dance troupe Poor Impulse Control and can often be found stomping around on a box at local industrial and goth nights including MEAT and POP ROXX at DNA Lounge.
