emchy: (SMOKIN a bday candle)
[personal profile] emchy
so - ok last night - i don't know about yours but my socks did indeed get knocked off. literally and figuartively.
hosting the QOM solo and it being the bday / fancy daphne reading - i just decided that fancy was required.
so i left work at 4:50, got home by 5:24, in car by 5:31, at mall by 5:40 (i know a short cut), in torrid with 2 dresses in hand by 5:43, dress decision made by 5:46, tried on some boots for kicks, home by 6:15, with just enough time to shower shower, get dressed and get to QOM by 7:20. (makeup in car is always a helper. ) the sad part is i seem to have lost my contacts post previous QOM. this is sad. oh well.

get to QOM and happy happy yay. the people i love are there and excitable. [profile] black_pearl_10, [profile] iamnotandrei, [personal profile] pantryslut, [profile] justin_42, [profile] agent_argyle, [profile] huskypapi squeeeee all so very exciting

a bit later i ran into [profile] daojawan who it's always fun to see and hear read.

i put the list out and me on it - and was excited. excited. recurring theme here. still haven't had the coffee so bear with me as i recount the night without my instinctual thesaurus. or spell check for that matter. eep. anyway - i had chosen to read a poem for my grandfather. not a "fun" one to read but... sacred to me. important. he is much of why i am this person in  this skin even if i only had him briefly.best friends do that to you.

anyway. cafe owners vince and pete were excellent - awesome - amazing. bought me dinner which they NEVER do :) and they got the QOM Bday cake from Dianda's - one of the best old school italian bakeries in all of SF. wow.

[personal profile] final_girl and [profile] claudimp arrived - this may be my LJ name limit soon because it's all getting blurring in that "hosting" sort of way. such good people. we did all of the performer / host check-innery and got ourselves settled in.

[profile] goodbadgirl and [personal profile] gordonzola arrived and came up to sit with me and [profile] huskypapi in the hosty area. yay!
then [personal profile] whittles and [personal profile] fightingwords made their way in... wahooo just about time to start the show.

nice full list on the open mic and as we went on - not one person went over time. omigod. brilliant. readers reading - doing the good stuff. [personal profile] final_girl was good good good - exactly what i needed to hear. my piece went over fine - i think - more importantly - reading it felt good for my heart - connecting back to something else... virgos - so many and so important in my life. what is it about us September babies? you all just seem to get right into that under my ribcage close heart place and stay... so much love there....

[profile] huskypapi has to get a huge shout out here. during the cake eating / book signing / break part of the night, i sat down on the chair and my new fishnets wrapped around a bolt on the eat of the chair. and while [personal profile] gordonzola's suggestion that i just get all diva and host from there was a good one - it was an official femme emergency to try and release me from my predicament - preferaqbly without tearing the new tights. [profile] goodbadgirl gave it a serious effort - and [profile] huskypapi saved the day when it looked most hopeless. tights free from chair and not ripped. side note - the looks you get from  your pervy friends when you're sitting at a cafe and other pervy friends are meddling up your dress and saying "just sit on my hands" - those looks are priceless.

the postscript to the tights story though is - sadly - while pillowfighting on the sidewalk after with [profile] black_pearl_10 the zipper on my boot ripped a hole on the calf of the fishnets. can this be repaired? if i just stitch up the whole will it keep tearing? advice welcome.

then folks went off to the wonders of hawaiian bbq, folks went off to hot pants, folks went off into the sunset for beverages and conversation, folks went many places. me - i just felt happy. it was a good night for words and those who love them.

1. You can stitch up the hole, or you can just leave it, and it probably won't keep tearing.

2. It's your birthday and our pillowfight, so if you tell us yr size we'll replace yr tights.

:O

does regular thread work to stitch up fishnets? i am a tights klutz - so hitory has told me it will keep tearing - we can check the progress tonight :)

y'all don't need to do that - but thank you. it was - i am sad to say - somewhat inevitable. i love tights but they never love me. or rather - we tend to have a lot of one night stands.

WAS THE BBQ FUN?

i think my timing was off for bbq - i tend to need it post imbibing the drinks - we should figure out a way to make this timing work so that i am craving the diner food when you all are... because i want that playtime too! :)

C'mon, you can't deny us the pleasure of buying you fishnets!
We're (shhh) perverts.

I'll let you have my pillow tonight, if you let us buy you tights.

If there's a bit of the fishnet that's long and sticking out of the rip, I just thread it through a nearby hole and around onto itself so I can make a knot. (I hope that makes sense.) I do that a couple of times and, while it results in a little "spot" on the fishnets, the hole stays closed even after a trip through the washer and dryer.

Yes, we will work on the timing! Also on the dancing, I think.

BBQ was soooo yummy. OMG.

Regular thread should work I think, but it has also been noted by our household that torn fishnets are hawt. ;) So I never bother, myself.

And finally, we *know* we don't *need* to do that, but we *want* to!

I agree wholeheartedly with this opinion.
