i realized, not too long ago, that in a sort of long-term way, this one DID work:

"we could start our own book club!"

but i don't think it counts in the same sense as actual bar pick-up lines.

about the closest to a bar pick-up line i've heard (used on me) and recalled in the last year was:

"he's an idiot."
"excuse me?"
"whoever's making you wait. he's an idiot."
"oh...he's not showing up, actually."

this from a guy who had made polite eye contact with me when i stepped outside the bar to check my voicemail.

he was sort of at a loss as to how to follow up my response, and he kind of gave up at that point at went back to sit with his friends, but it was nice anyway.
