I lost flesh in between the rocks
every April
when the ground thawed
and trees teased with some vague promise
of green
kept me hoping
know
green wasn't until May.
Always with those
almost warm enogh days
after so much frozen
when me and every adult in town
wore shorts
in fifty degrees.
While fish belly feet
found the ground again
raw in dirt
leaving week flesh on the gravel
with skin crying
singing
yelling
from the life.
