Jul. 16th, 2005 01:59 pmthough i missed the fun of shadowplay last night (and from various reports it sounds like a good time was indeed missed) i had one of those absolutely great nights just being all settled in. went to berkely and saw the charlie chocolate movie. i enjoyed it a lot, like i tend to do with time burton films, the origin myth of the oompa loompas was pretty blunt in its native peoples enslaved by colonialist thing, making wonka a benevolent master but still... ihaven't read the book, and i am actually curious as to how true that hits to the original literature. i could get all film review on you now, but will abstain.
the occasion was for the absolutely wonderful carolines birthday. it was so good to sit next to her and watch the movie and it felt like being with old wonderful friends because that is exactly what it was. there is nothing like laughing with people who have known you for a while and love you unconditionally. no matter how dorky or dumb or cranky or goofy or bitchy you are. we went back to caroline and renaye's house after and played chin people games. i laughed so hard my stomach hurt over and over. it was hard to leave at 12:30 but i knew i was getting tired for the unpredicatable bridge traffic. pre-dog we would've just stayed over, but that's not an option anymore.
slept late, doing laundry, going on a dog walk soon and then working. i wish there was more play in this weekend for me, but it's just not there. can't even rent a movie and relax. tomorrow i go swimming though and that makes the work work work of today worth it.
i feel like there are really good things happening.
i bought bullets and butterflies today, those of you in it that i know, prepare to autograph pleez. :P I had to order it from booksmith because for some lame reason they don't automatically carry a lot of indie local presses. at least not the ones my friends are published on. and yet they are my local bookstore. getting to modern times is a bit of a pain for me. plus i like to support local. i just wish the fuckers would promote the indie and local presses i like, instead of just 'bigger' and not so local, or maybe just more straight presses and authors.
if i could do anything today, i would clean the house, i mean really clean it, make a good dinner and then go dance my ass off tonight. but sadly, that is not the way of the walk. instead, dog walk, clean, groceries, dinner, work, work on resume, rebuild database, take a bath, work, bed. not a bad mix, but not as relaxing as i would like. but i think i already said that.
