anyone have any thoughts about why or how serious it is that my 'service engine soon' light came on?
my car is a 2005 mitsubishi lancer with 48500+ miles on it
all of my other cars were american with 175,000+ miles on them and the service engine light usually came on about 2 minutes before the car died completely.
that isn't the case here. car is full of all of its fluids. running 100% fine. no weird noises. seems happy except for the light.
the mechanics are closed today for the most part and since i now have to drive to commute i am trying to figure out the best way to deal with this and be responsbile. i did some digging online but didn't really see a good sort of common sense answer around this.
any info / help / perspective is very appreciated.

Today I don't think merits being up for discussion. I did watch Spiderman 3 and that was pretty entertaining. I do love the cinematic stylings of Sam Raimi yes quite a lot. I got a couple of very charming invites out for the night but am so moody and antisocial that I don't think I can put myself or my friends through that right now.
Tonight I will make some food and then I will make some tea and listen to jazz and read new books by my friends. Mingus Changes One is already on as I write this and my mood is getting better by the note.
The weekend over all was good. QOM was awesome and I am continuously wowed by how much better the open mic part gets every time. Saturday gave me some relax time with Rooster as well as groceries and later Rube Waddell at their yearly live on the sidewalk in the mission show. Tubas and accordions and trumpets and amps that are battery powered and keep going for four hours are not bad. My feet hurt after stomping on cement for four hours but it was a good show. For Sure. There will be a full photo essay post about that later. But here is a sneak preview.

Sunday was a Bourne Identity marathon with more wine than you can shake a stick at with Punk and Rooster over in the east bay.
