Celebrate QOM with me tonight at The Edge
Oct. 18th, 2007 06:30 pmThe announcement party for the grant Queer Open Mic won is on Thurs in the Castro - wanna come and hang out? I am not allowed yet to say who the other three organizations that won are (HA! I am an "organization") but they're rad places doing super important stuff. So please come over. If you're a queer artist there should be some good info / people to meet to find out ways to get funded too.
AC4A, the SF LGBT Community Center, and the Edge bar invite you to meet the 2007 Hunter Hargraves Summer Fellows and, especially, celebrate the winners of the 2007 “New Venture Seed Fund” awards. These four, tremendous community leaders are poised to make the Castro more fun, more interesting, more diverse — for years to come!

Oct. 18th, 2007 10:48 pmSo the big party / benefit announcing the winners of the And Castro For All Seed Fund were tonight. All groundbreaking and shit because it's the first time (so they say) that orgs are being given money to help change the face of the castro by funding / helping build queer cultural events that strongly promote ethnic, age and gender diversity. AKA not a bunch of gay white men only dominating the culture of the Castro.
It was a bigger deal than I expected. I don't know exactly what I expected. But a fancy party at the Edge with Carole Migden and Mark Leno and Bevan Dufty was a bit surreal. And then the other orgs having postcards and buttons and uber networking and about 20 people per org was a little intimidating too.
But yea for the little engine that could of QOM.
Even officially recognized by the California Legislature and everything.
Mark Leno was really into getting out picture but it turned out way too dark.
Cell phone camera, bar, etc.
This is just a little crazy though.

Who woulda thought that this earnest queer open mic would get an honor like this.
Anyway. It was hard being there solo and not so prepared. But it was also crazy cool to get this sort of honor.
