So sometimes things do pop up just when you need them. Here I was feeling all discouraged and poor me writer. Wallowing in my pity party and being kind of a big jerk to people who would try to tell me otherwise. and then I see this and am all... ok. That was in fact totally self indulgent and this is much more exciting. I am in the anthology below and it's coming out right around my birthday. :o omg.

It's So You explores the intersection between personal style and personal expression through lively personal essays by thirty-five top women writers—including two artists. In a culture that uses oppressive beauty standards to influence and determine what’s hot, how do women manage to find their own distinct style, and to delight in fashion, without feeling like they’re selling out, or buying into consumerism?

It's So You emerges from third-wave feminism, which celebrates not only the frivolity and playfulness of women’s fashion, but also the daring aesthetics of sex workers, out queers, and fashionistas. Contributors include Six Feet Under Producer Jill Soloway, transgender icon Kate Bornstein, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, poet Diane di Prima, NPR regular Sandra Tsing Loh, novelist Beth Lisick, Calvin Klein model Jenny Shimizu, [profile] goodbadgirl, [profile] sherilyn, actress Laura Fraser, Meliza Banales and writer/herstorian Trina Robbins (and me).

From the haute couture houses of the ruling class to DIY girls who make restorative clothing and create their own hodgepodge style, It's So You is the first book to explore women’s ambivalence, suspicion, indulgence, and love of fashion on every level.

Google, Facebook Start Low-Key Mating Dance

Facebook: A place for Googlers

Robert Young over at Publishing 2.0 highlights current speculation that Google and Facebook may be getting closer than online acquaintances should.

Based on its purchases of YouTube and Doubleclick, it is clear that when Google gets googley-eyed, money is no object. But Young points out that if Google acquires Facebook, a deal he believes is already in the make, the search and advertising giant will need to take careful steps not to harm its (still pending) $900 million agreement with MySpace.

MySpace is responsible for nearly 11 percent of Google's search traffic.

There does not currently appear to be a non-compete clause in the Google/MySpace agreement; however, Google's prospective acquisition of Facebook may drive Murdoch - and MySpace - into the loving arms of Yahoo.

Rumors of a Murdoch/Yahoo barter for MySpace are already in the air.

Young takes an extra leap to suggest Facebook will file an S-1 to increase its valuation in the last-minute negotiations process.

Feature Bio

J. Fantôme Wilber is a traveller girl who loves words, wandering ghosts, wondertales, and whiskey.  She tells stories because she is stories.  She writes poetry and prose about desire and freedom and danger, travel, nights of boozing, her misspent youth, smoky clubs, and other things that make her ghost-heart thump faster.   She writes magical realist fiction about things like mysterious deaths, men who get turned into bears, girls who live in lakes, and the circus.   When performing, she often accompanies herself on the accordion.  She has run away with the circus five times, and other than being a writer she is also a musician, human pincushion, glass-walker, burlesque dancer, and clown; and she has been known to spin punk rock records at various bars throughout the midwest.   You can find out more about her by visiting her website: http://sadandbeautifulworld.net/.
