Arts Task Force to Convene
Town Hall Meeting for District 11
Saturday, September 24, 2005
1 pm to 2:30 pm
Café Mama Art Cafe
(September 19, San Francisco) The City’s Arts Task Force is convening a town hall meeting for District 11 (Excelsior/Crocker-Amazon/Glen Park) on Saturday, September 24, 2005 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm at Café Mama.
Members of the Arts Task Force will be present to ask artists, arts organizations, and community members from District 11 how San Francisco can reform public funding for the arts to more effectively:
Keep artists living and working in San Francisco
Sustain and stabilize our arts organizations
Assure arts funding meet the broader needs of the communities
The Chairperson of the Task Force, Mission-based painter Debra Walker said of the coming gathering, “The Task Force has been meeting at City Hall for several weeks now and has listened to a lot of reports from various City agencies—arts and non-arts specific—and has gathered a great deal of information. However, we cannot achieve our goals without getting broad input from every community. We have to know what each community sees as the most crucial priorities for San Francisco’s arts industry in the coming years.”
The Task Force is due to deliver its report to the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors by November 1, 2005.
For more information, call Pamela Peniston, Arts Task Force District 11 Representative, at 415-298-3527 or e-mail pampen1@earthlink.net. For more information on the Arts Task Force or other district’s meetings: http://sfartscommission.org/programs/arts_task_force.htm.
