JAZZ & WHISKEY
She was always calmed
by jazz and whiskey
it slowed her down
in a good
earthy
smell of dirty moonshine nights
stars seen out a back seat window
at one am
sort of way
She would sway to it
whiskey with a rhythm
like church
or Dean Martin
while her wind bitten cheeks
warmed
with the burn
She looked over
held her liquor
with relish
her pen like a cigarette
finding the smoker in me
as she asked
for a light.

zip zip zip
and it all changes
flips around so fast that i cannot believe where i was a week a go and i can feel the old habits and patterns whispering about me in the recent past, but i am looking forward
On tuesday vince asked me to organize the new open mic night at the cafe - i thought about it, agreed to do it, and it's as if the car finally was in the right gear and the gas pedal went flush to the floor
I have not written so much in one week since 1988. I have not been to so many poetry events, not received such feedback since informal recitals on dave armstrongs porch
i.am.excited.
new journal, new open mic, new poems, and new works by poets i love to keep me inspired and my person and my mind just keeps moving moving moving
it fels like i have tapped into my own personal drug
colors are brighter and i can let go of my bay area malaise
i have woken up from a dead to myself slumber and suddenly i see the writers around me, the great proliferation of work and energy and maybe my open mic isn't even necessary inreality, but it is certainly going to be fun!
