I'll be reading at this tonight around 8:20! Followed by final_girl. fightingwords is also performing! Come on... meet us there!

This year's QBall Performance Gala is more dynamic than ever! It starts with four separate art openings! Fresh Meat's E. Ramstad and Billie Mandel curate a dynamic show in Gallery 301; Tina Butcher, Heather Catanich and Lauren Wheeler inhabit the 2nd and 4th floors; Cathy Cade and Jane Philomen Cleland bring you 10 years of photographs of the Dyke March and in the Three Dollar Bill Cafe, the work of Angela Rose Voulgarelis .

We move to the Rainbow Room and check out samples of short performances coming up in the National Queer Arts Festival! Then push back the chairs, slip on your dancing shoes and move to the serious sounds of DJ Trilce..

In the midst of all these festivities, up in Room 300, Lynnly Labovitz, a portrait photographer, will take photos of you to capture the night. Artists & audiences are especially encouraged to dress for the occasion and be captured digitally!

So I decided to be a creepy man and read the beginning of your journal. One of your entries said this and it really struck me:

As many of you know, over the past few years here in SF I have been struggling to find a community of poets, writers and artists that could enliven and encourage each other. A feminist bunch of multi cultural multi gendered folks that want to share work in an inclusive and queer environment that isn’t bogged down by a lot of pretention.
I have found open mics around town, mostly straight in focus, mostly white in attendance and even when reading felt like I was coming from such a different space, just very alienated. I have attended some queer open mics, and I wish there were more and that they were more centrally located (I love Potrero Hill, but without a car it’s not the easiest on a Sunday night). I feel like I am the bee girl in the Blind Melon video and I am still searching for my people.

I could NOT agree with you more. I've been trying so hard these past 5 years to really find a sense of community, to find other lesbians who are not A) Rude B) Old C) Completely illiterate.

From now on, your open mic is going to be one of my regular hangouts, old chap!

I do not know who the bee girl is, but I completely know what you mean, plus my middle name is Bee, so i'm going to pretend that I am the bee girl right there with you.
