emchytonight's show was pretty great. i was able to breathe enough to not have bad nerves and then the singing and playing itself was good and just felt fucking good. sunday nights show was rough with what felt like a potenially hostile / too cool for school audience but this was just straightforward. yes there were hip people there and plenty of jaunty hats to be found. but there was nothing hipster about it for miles. [tangent - sunday had a lot of good people there too - there was just something more art and less accordion about the vibe - but in truth it turned out very well - please don't read that as a disparaging of sundays crowd]
so i played well. jim from the dark room played one song and it was bad ass. and mark and his quartet were more than grand. youtube videos are posting as i type. i was really hapy with this show. it meant a lot to me. to open for an artist i so admire as a solo act. to grab a room and not lose them to drunky chatter. to actually pull together my own set in my home town where i knew people - and trust me that is scarier than the anonymity of st louis. my friends were in the house and i so didn't want to be full of fail for them.
and it went well.
i am happy.
and tired.
and a little boozy.
now its time for bed.
