in the last month mine and roosters breathing has gotten super bad. sore throat, asthma, even though under a stethoscope the lungs sound clear... away for the weekend all symptoms cleared up. back in the apt they are totally back. so i am wondering if its the city or the apt. does anyone know a good air quality tester to help us figure that out? it sucks and is full of cranky to not be able to breathe. and the drugs to treat it have plenty of evil side effects so really we need to get this figured out.

I don't. But ... (and I'm sure you've already thought of this), have you tried new pillows? Even though I use micro-covers on all of my bedding (pillows, comforter, mattress), I still find that I have to change the pillows out ever year or else I feel like I'm going to drown.

i think this is a grand idea - what brand of micro covers do you use for the mattress / comforter?

I'm not sure -- but I know that I got the pillow covers (and, and the comforter micro-cover, too, and the mattress cover as well now that I think about it!) at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The first set I got was not fantastic, so I went back and got the extra-fine, extra-woven ones, and I could tell a big difference. There are very expensive ones for sale online, but these work just fine.

But also, yeah, the smoke. Bleh. That'll do you in, too.

that was crazy fun. all our pillows are non down - but they aren't fresh and new - looks like a trip to bed & bath is in my future

My allergies were so bad bad bad for so long this year. I am just now getting them under control with the generic Zyrtec (cetrizine. Yay!)which I get on the super cheep from Kaiser.

http://www.healthgoods.com/Shopping/Home_Test_Kits/EnviroCheck_Indoor_Air_Quality_Test_Kit.asp might be a worthwhile investment. On your side of town, mold is VERY common. I am highly sensitive to it myself. Sinus Doom if anything goes science near me :-)

air quality in the BA has been in the toilet courtesy of 1000+ fires.

Curiously SLO had some wicked bad air quality for a few weeks. But not this weekend.
