the show last night was magic. there was a point where rooster and i were sitting on the floor - fingers almost touching and i could feel the vibration of the bass running like electricity between our fingers. the show was 100% acoustic. it was only the energy of the room and the sound buzzing there and it was incredible.

woke up this morning later than usual. sleepy and stretchy like a cat from sleeping in. memory foam mattress omg beats ours with its brick in the alley quality. made some quick tasty food and coffee, cleaned up the rental and then headed to the beach. we laid out the howell high blanket, settle the beach chairs in and just kinda kicked back for a few hours.

i busted open a watermelon on an old driftwood fence and we ate it like messy messy five year olds. i made us lunch sandwiches with my finger as the condiment spreader. it was all so tasty.

when the sun had burned us out we drove up to olema. windows down and gossip blaring we rolled into town and cruised through the epicenter store. I got the perfect stripey scarf. rooster got a dogtown shirt. then it was into point reyes station. coffee and baked goods and people with accents from nearly every continent. we stopped for beer and oysters and realized that right now really isn't oyster season. i don't think i have ever left oysters on a plate - but sometimes it's better to play it safe.

then we decided the adventure wasn't over. rooster had a friend who went to college in santa rosa and talked about the art scene there. so we took the back way into petaluma and then to santa rosa and drove around on the prowl. the strangest thing and rooster noticed it first. there are all these ways that santa rosa just totally evokes howell. from street shapes and trees and house styles. even in terms of how light hits it. the downtown. it's more built up than my little home town farming place but not by a lot considering how howell is these days. it was surreal. i felt so at ease and comfortable. then rooster mentioned the similarities and it all made sense.

look out we may be moving to santa rosa instead of manhattan.
i feel like myself again.
driving back with the sun burning us we couldn't stop smiling.
i got home and first thing picked up my accordion for over an hour.
i feel happy. the reset button was reset.
it's good.

i want more.
i want to move to the country and paint my mailbox blue*

now its just waiting for the chicken to be done and to eat some dinner with some wine and then play some cards before getting some feedback together for a pal. w00t!

Drinkin red ginger limeade in a beach studio apt in Bolinas. Rooster is squeezing two more minutes of nap in before we head out to a seekrit candlelit in a barn accordion show about an hour away in Santa Rosa.

We got into Bolinas last night and Lucky is loving the beach like a crazy dog.

Today we went into Fairfax and saw Sex in the City in the old local movie theater and then bought some tasty groceries from the healthy people store.  The big win there - fresh beet, celery and carrot juice that had been bottled that morning. Tasted like heaven. Driving back to the studio the light was comin through the redwoods and the air smelled like fennel and basil. It's kinda a dream out here. I love West Marin. Always have. Small towns and unpretentious people with lots of farms and redwoods. Lots of levis and very few Guatemalan 100% dye free hemp pants if you know what I mean.

It's a place I would like to live. For reals. Sigh. Even with normal people living here the prices for houses actually for sale are just crazy. Visiting is good though. The place we're staying is right off the water and affordable enough. The people have parrots in their front yard. So charming.

There is a place in the downtown called the grand hotel which is mostly a used bookstore where back in the day the beats used to stay when they got out of the city. [profile] rain_and_rivers i was thinking we should stay here next time you visit.

I love this town. I wish I didn't have to come back. I heart my life and my pals but I wish it could all be out here too. The ocean and the sky and the redwoods just fill me with dreaming. I needed to be full of dreaming after the harsh of these past week weeks / months. I am hoping I reset the clock the weekend. That's my ideal.
