sex in the 20s
while looking around for flapper underwear on ebay i somehow came across this picture - which sums up how i sometimes feel, how i want to feel and the aesthetic of sexual glee and ease with self. one of the sexiest pics I have ever seen.
yes i did get these at graceland
ah - my actual elvis glasses. i took this pic myself at an old job when i was just getting my lj feet wet and wanted more icons. that's me looking as i imagine one should look in graceland glasses.
lydia the tattooed lady
image from a delicious bonnydoon vineyard wine. and sums up how i sometimes see myself in my mind.
INTERESTS
exploring musical landscapes
this often applies to jazz for me. laying back and hearing the improv and where it's going and where it's taking and how its looking back and what places come up for me while it's on and the spaces in between the notes and how once in while really good music that isn't jazz can take me places too. exploring the landscapes of places that the music brings up and then the landspaces peaks and valleys of the notes and instruments themselves
mythology of baseball
the ultimate americana. along the lines of trainhopping and woodie guthrie - baseball is one of those things - so accessible by the working class, has been of and for the american people since the beginning of the last century. i watched the ken burns doc and saw history interconnecting. how americans have played out social issues on the baseball field. how it can give people something in common to root for or to rally about. a piece of how to keep community as we roll into a culture that is so isolating. at modern games still singing the old songs. baseball is one of those things that still actually cares about tradition. and there are some serious characters in its stories
profane vs sacred
it all about how the ugly and the beautiful interconnect. real love has it's ugly sides. anything that holds gorgeous has to have it's contrast. anything that the heart holds sacred has an underbelly. the dark and twisty and complicated parts are what make things so precious and the profanity makes us want them more.

Date: 2007-05-12 01:16 am (UTC)have you ever read the book summerland? it totally takes the mythology of baseball to a whole new love. i think it's technically supposed to be a book for children, but i adore it.
