hey all
exhausted in michigan
it got warmer today
it is now 6 degrees
eeep
three xmas celebrations today (two still pending) and we saw a womens college basketball game - finally at the game saw some family
that's now twice today that it hasn't felt like i am the outcast in this land where the child is god and every woman over 35 is wearing sweatshirts with little kittens on them
i have nothing against kittens, but c'mon do we have to start so early at desexualizing ourselves, my god.

not really sure how i feel about the visit yet. i am too whirlwinded by constant children, family and processed foods - someone please make me eat something healthy when we get back - today i ate some leftover cheesball for lunch, why? it was the only thing in my parents house that didn't have cottonseed oil or transfat in it. only real fat. great.

i miss home. and by home - i am not meaning howell. though good news for the poem - i had the wrong exit #, it's #138 wahoo

dear surrounded by cheese and wonderbread in michigan,
think of a girlboy with an out of tune steel guitar, singing in stop start with the lyrics to a childhood favorite song in front of her.she is my best friend and we are making up from the hideous kind of fight you can only have with best friends~the ones so deep, the only way to heal them is with swapping childhood similarities and singing punk rock karoake of old favorite songs. and eating, smoking and drinking until our sides remember how to split together again in rolling, ridiculous laughter.

so, this was my yesterday and the girl with the steel guitar won't make it to her mom's for christmas this year, not going to use the mitt-shaped cookie cutter, not trekking up to the u.p.,not coming back to regale me with stories of eye-level snow, big trees, and home-killed venison from another republican relative.michigan is the reason she's an environmental activist for a living, because she knows where the hunters and sportsmen come from. she doesn't understand it, but she does and this is the country of why.

i have only been to michigan for music with y wimmin.but her childhood and mine sound similar. we both scrabbled around outside a lot because our imaginary friends outnumbered the real ones. we wrote a lot of stories and channeled our horrors on to pages.how'd we find each other in georgia, i won't ever know, something cosmic at the root, i guess.

and now we're singing this silly song, one that was hers and mine, but more hers because it was about her territory, a little like how The Boss represented my state. and this song is made sillier by changing it to "The Wreck of The Ella Fitzgerald."

I hope this little vignette of two dykes, one a Michiganer from the veryvery rural parts, singing out of tune, cheers you up for a minute.
