she's leaving Detroit again
moving to another part
of Cass Corridor
which isn't really different
Except that she says it is
when the line drops out
and I am alone.

I didn't get to tell her
the flower guy refused me lilacs again
and I get them
to think of her
the fake ones she sent me
16 months ago
and that one moment in spring
1994
with her
when I felt happy.
