so apparently everything i read, or am emailed, or hear is invested in keeping me looking into the past. here is another one.

I was about 2 1/2 months away from my college graduation

East Lansing Michigan, in a teeny one bedroom with HUGE windows in a converted home. Lucky me all of my views were of trees even though i technically lived on one of the busiest streets in town.

Q6) How was your hair style?
actually, a lot like it is now. but more asymmetrical. that whole lopsided bob thing.

Q7) Did you wear braces?
no. that was more like 20 years ago.

Q8) Did you wear contacts?
yes.

yes.

Q10) Who was your best friend?
Judi Grrrl

Q11) Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend?
John for the most part. and for some of that time Emily. wow did that implode in my face. ugh. I was also *trying* to get with sasha, and we had a good friend flirt going on. but i 'didn't get it' when she chewed on my neck at the bar, and she 'didn't get it' when i wore catholic schoolgirl drag and thigh highs over to her house with six pack in hand. sigh. destined to be clueless until later when it wasn't an option anymore.

madonna, pj harvey and courtney love

emily, sasha, marie

nope

just the five in the ears. the septum piercing happened in june

none - that wasn't until 1997

YES. i had a 1/2 pavk a day american spirits habit

yes. this was the year of a lot of pot, a lot of acid and a lot of long island iced teas.

Q20) Had you driven yet?
i am starting to feel like this meme is too young for me. or i am too old. YES lots of driving.

Q21) If so which car?
i was on car #4 or 5. this was a beige buick century. all of my cars had been killed by deer at this point.

Q22) Which of your pets were still alive?
it was the year i adopted mz cluecat

Q23) Looking back, are you where you thought you would be in 1996?
kinda - though i pictured NYC. and more poems published. but in other ways i am further ahead than i expected. i didn't think i would be a non-smoker. and i didn't think that i wouldn't know john anymore.

I'm fascinated by the way this meme presumes a particular age range by its respondents, i.e. mid-twenties. You started to think the meme was too young for you at question 20. Question 2 flagged it for me: "What grade were you in?" In 1996 I was a civilian, having left grad school 8 years before.
