weekend is rolling
Mar. 18th, 2007 12:42 pmi got some time with the cutest nephew ever yesterday. yay for east bay. if this keeps up we might just move there next. yay for cesar chavez park and hills and kites. and big yay for the faboo gay owner of fellini's on university who was so nice and charming when we stopped for coffee that the east bay (formerly portland) friend decided she should buy us dinner there. so all was right in the word and rooster got to have almost vegan - aka vegan creamy mushroom fettucini with chicken - dinner and i revelled mostly in my goat cheese salad and the asparagus appetizer. i had a pasta entree - but it was as good as the veggie things. awesome in flavor - but too heavy for how i was feeling. best wine ever? the "Irony" pinot noir. wow. and it added to a lot of hilarious dinner conversation. including - of course - i love irony.
wrapped it up with watching the movie fast food nation which just felt like such a disappointing and missed opportunity. at the end i realized that it was a linklater film and i realized that though i always tend to have the high hopes, i am usually disappointed by the pacing and tone of his work which leaves me feeling like i saw something that was almost amazing. the realization that this is true for me for most of his catalog makes me very sad. i kept thinking it was just a one off thing. :(
today we are heading to opera plaza to see one of the few working in hollywood female cinematographers speak as part of the asian american film fest. should be fun. i miss going to the fest more - there are always so many good films. my friend brent is doing their directions in sound (http://www.asianamericanfilmfestival.org/2007/films-events/directions-in-sound/)program which is just blow you away good every year. that was exciting - he has a good aesthetic for it. awesome way to find out about cool and amazing music.
was excited that rooster ran into a pal of ours at the ticket outlet so we're comped in today. yay for film fest connections. swear to god it's like a little mafia family. once you're in you're never really out. i haven't worked festival since 2003 and people still come up and think that i do. it cracks me up. and then i realize that since i usually still do program notes it makes sense that they still see me in that light. not this year though. looks like it's my frist year of no note writing. and i am ok with it - though i miss the sneak previews of the filmies. which means of course attending more of the fest and without a pass come june. :O wacky!
alright - time to go brave the transit / traffic issues of van ness,
