Tattoo Artist SOS
Sep. 7th, 2005 09:50 amThis was emailed to me, if you can help post your email in the comments. all comments screened.
I am in contact with the shop owner of Electric Ladyland Tattoo
(2 shops--one in the French quarter, the other downtown N.O.).
Her name is Annette LaRue.
Her website is
http://www.electricladyland.net
You can read her bio at
http://www.electricladyland.net/annette.html
She and some of her artists came to S.F. for the Expo .
So now they are stranded here with only what they brought,
which was a 4-day supply of provisons.
They've been posting on craigslist for a sublet for the group.
So far they aren't getting any response. Maybe because of the size of
her group and how, understandably, they want to stay together--
I think she said there are 6 in her group, plus some of the
guys had girlfriends coming. They have money and can spend
max 2 grand a month. Looking for a furnished sublet, if possible.
They will need it for 3 to 6 months. Do you know of anything?
Are there resources in the local tattoo community to help them
get temporarily settled in here? Or, like, do you know anybody
with a big sublet like that?
I stopped by their booth because it was one of the
most colorful and fascinating booths at the convention.
Their banners were really incredible and they were super nice
and seemed to really have their shit together.
In her e-mails, Annette is real stoic but all the same, I can see
that she's gotta be extremely traumatized, even
though she has not complained at all.
She's apparently a real trooper.
Leslie, do you have any ideas?
Any suggestions for her in her search for the group sublet? Insider's
tips
for snagging a good sublet quick?

Sep. 7th, 2005 11:33 amdoes anyone know...
it seems like a donation of gameboys and batteries would be good to help keep folks at the various shelters occupied. i am hearing reports that one of the biggest troubles now is to keep people occupied and not going out of their minds with worry about questions that are not yet answerable...
books of course would be good too.
also, anyone know if the caravan of burning man players to go down and offer up supplies and entertainment has been successful? most folks i know of who went seem to be back. did it work? did the folks who could go down to help? any updates welcome. thanks.

i have been on the posting boards of the times-picayune today. or rather www.nola.com
there i read a report, totally not substantiated that
1. a six year old girl was raped at the superdome (i have heard this before, but do not know if it is rumor or fact)
2. that people who were nearby, when they realized what was happening, killed the rapist
this could all be totally true and impossible to prove. but, that said, has anyone seen anything that would either validate or invalidate these stories?

music has me turned around tonight
kurt weill brought me a poem this morning, and tom waits is reading me poetry tonight and last night john coltrane made me a cup of tera nad gave me a massage that has lasted all day. something happened last night, somehow, illness, stress, all of it, i hit the pause button. i put the lady to bed for a nap in her illness. i switched the light to mellow in the kitchen, hit the coltrane, put on the tea and started washing dishes. somehow, in that i found myself. i found the mellow, the rhythm and just let myself...be
i feel like i am walking in words and cannot wait, cannot wait, to spend some time on poetry later tonight, to spend some time letting vowels sink into me like ink, like love, like sex
the times are changing back and forward all at once. and it feels...good. damn good.
