feelings about flickr

Yesterday flickr decided to add videos to their (before now) awesome photo services.
I don't really want flickr to try and become youtube and thus muck up any simplicity or enjoyment that i have in the one (of maybe three) sites that aren't junkifying themselves by trying to be everything at once.

so in case you're interested and use flickr - some folks made this group which I was proud to join

The videos are super short and higher res than youtube. They can't compete with the tube and I don't think they're trying to. I don't think video will have any kind of negative impact.

i have watched it from the inside more than once - as soon as they start branching into other arenas the quality of the service and the site will suffer. they do what they do so well. if i want a jarbled gobbledygook of murky messaging and fragmented experience i would just stick to other websites that try to do everything and do none of it well.

kudos to them for having a loyal audience. but it's a double edged sword.

It's been coming ever since they were bought by Yahoo. They can't compete with google/youtube but they desperately want to.

Flickr was an awesome community, now starts that long cold spiral down.
