Hello there!

I've had this position with AlterNet.org in an interim, half-time capacity for the last six months, and we're now looking to fill the position full time in San Francisco. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help!
-Deanna

Company: AlterNet.org
Job Title: Director of Technology
Description: AlterNet.org, the Webby Award-winning national on-line magazine of news and culture with over 2 million unique visitors per month, seeks a Director of Technology to oversee the development, design and maintenance of all aspects related to the organization's website, as well as direct IT-related issues. The ideal candidate has top-notch technical project management skills, an eye for future technology and a desire to operate as the nerve center of AlterNet.

Responsible for coordinating a part-time junior web producer and part-time programmer/developer, the Director of Technology works with staff members to improve site functionality and create new administrative toolsets. Assessing new technology, as well as acting as a liason to outside IT, analytics, email and hosting providers, are also key.

Responsibilities include: translating editorial and business needs into technical solutions; implementing new features on the site though excellent project management, answering questions and responding to staff issues with the site and site tools; coordinating the implementation of fundraising and marketing campaigns; researching and reporting to staff on up-and-coming media technologies; creating and internally distributing traffic and other analytics reports; and occasionally assisting with IT-related issues.

Requirements include: an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; a demonstrated ability to maintain a professional web site (proficiency in XHTML, CSS required; familiarity with mySQL and PHP strongly recommended); a collaborative working style, confidence in skills and overall flexibility; experience working with or managing robust database-driven sites, CMSs, server side scripting, etc.; and the ability to QA own work.

Expertise in usability and UI design implementation, and/or experience working on media-driven web sites are a big plus.
