Three Dollar Bill Cafe
1800 Market St in SF

Queer Open Mic is a rockin peformance spoken word hootenanny cabaret. Hosted by Cindy Emch and Sherilyn Connelly. Bringing the heat for December are two lit superstars! Alvin Orloff, a budget bon vivant with a taste for frivolous novels, low dives, and exotic restaurants. He has written 2 novels, an alien invasion / queer romance entitled, "I Married an Earthling" and "Gutter Boys," a twisted tale of debauchery and thwarted romance in the early '80s. And the currently touring Andi Kauth who has been writing poetry since she was old enough to put complete thoughts together, Andi began her career in Slam in 2004, when she was mentored by the creator of Slam himself, Marc Smith. Since then, she has gone on to become Slam Master of the Palatine Poetry Slam, Coach of the 2005 Palatine National Poetry Slam team, and a member of the 2006 Palatine NPS team.

Come on out for a rare superstar treat!

Open mic readers can read / perform one piece that is five minutes or less. See you there!

Alvin Orloff
Alvin Orloff began writing in 1977 as a teenage lyricist for The Blowdryers, a San Francisco punk band. After studying sociology at U.C. Berkeley he dabbled in underground theater with The Sick & Twisted Players, performance art with the Popstitutes, and deejaying at Baby Judy's neo new-wave nightclub, before wholly succumbing to his literary pretensions. His writing can be found in numerous zines as well as the anthologies, Beyond Definition (Manic D Press, 1994), Tricks and Treats (Harrington Park Press 2000), and Pills, Chills, Thrills and Heartache (Alyson Press 2004). Orloff is also the co-author of transsexual showbiz memoir, The Unsinkable Bambi Lake (Manic D Press 1996) and a queer romance/alien invasion novel, I Married An Earthling (Manic D Press 2000). His latest novel is Gutter Boys (Manic D Press 2004), a wryly-twisted tale of unrequited love and debauchery set in 1980s gay Manhattan. Orloff lives in San Francisco's uber-trendy Mission District where he is hard at work on his 3rd, 4th, and 5th novels.

ANDI KAUTH
Although she has been writing poetry since she was old enough to put complete thoughts together, Andi began her career in Slam in 2004, when she was mentored by the creator of Slam himself, Marc Smith. Since then, she has gone on to become Slam Master of the Palatine Poetry Slam, Coach of the 2005 Palatine National Poetry Slam team, and a member of the 2006 Palatine NPS team. She mentors kids in the art of spoken word, and has also been invited into high school freshman English classes to help introduce the writing and performing of spoken word. She has been published twice in the Celebration of Young Poets poetry anthology and has been featured in The Viking Logue and The Daily Herald.

Winning two slams at Chicago's Green Mill have been highlights in her young career. Other highlights include performing in the Slam Master Slam against more than twenty of the best poets in the country at the 2005 National Poetry Slam, placing 31st individually at the 2006 National Poetry Slam, and participating for three years in William Fremd High School's annual weeklong literary festival. She recently received the honor of being named Best Writer of her 2006 graduating class. She has a CD out called "The Young(er) Years" and is working on a chapbook.

Andi has taken the year off before college to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional performance poet and to go on tour. She also hopes to give presentations at Women's Centers and wherever she goes, raise awareness of sexual violence so that some day soon the high percent of rape and sexual violence in the US will start decreasing. In college, she plans on studying Civil Rights/Liberties and English Ed.
