I usually post to Dreamwidth and have it syndicated to LJ. I just haven't posted this week because of teh bizzy. But I read both, even when users post across both platforms.
Paid accounts offer a lot more as far as icons and customization go. You may even be able to port over your icons now. I'll yell 'WOOT' if you can do so. :)
