The point is that the kind of things the ABC is complaining about - mostly patrons behaving inappropriately - is given a wrist-slap at hetero strip clubs. If DNA or any other club were serving minors, or if their employees were otherwise violating laws, a stricter approach might make sense. The same if they were flagrantly disregarding patron behavior. But for momentary acts committed by patrons? Then apply the same penalty applied at straight clubs on a routine basis. Weirdly, I haven't heard about any complaints documented on the 18+ nights, or the burlesque nights, or the fetish nights, all nights you'd think they'd be wanting to check out, but nope, just the gay ones.
And the larger question of why ABC has been hanging around DNA so much is also worth asking. How many inspectors do they have, anyway, versus how many clubs in SF? This much attention given to one site really does suggest a vendetta.
Was Barry misquoted? Shouldn't his comment have read "there is no precedent for the ABC going after straight clubs for this kind of complaint"? Because there is plenty of precedent for them going after gay clubs - that's why they were formed to begin with.
i just see it as a weirdo friendly space that is one of my favorite queer places to go these days - even if the events aren't. it is pretty dodgy though that the ABC sent folks in for dirton the homo nights... i am just glad the fucked uppepry of it is getting some coverage.
