guitar

do you think there are guitar strings that hurt fingers more?
i just pulled out ye olde creaky 12 string
i love to play
you didn't know that did you?
or maybe you did. i fucking love playing and singing.
got those old tom waits and leonard cohen books out
played for... 45 mintues i guess
and my fingers feela bout to fall the fuck off
blister on my strumming thumb
and the pads of my left hand all fucking pissed off - even hurting nerve sensation to type
it is new playing since my arm / work injury
it definately is something to pay attention to
and while that came up
what came up more
was the owie fuck owie of chord placement
my fingers never felt strong enough for bar chords
the tendons don't seem to work that way even when i practiced fucking g and f bar chords for a whole summer. now i just fake it
but damn
ow
i want softer strings

When you can stand to play again, play.
Every day.

nylon hurts less than steel but you can't do nylon on a 12 string... the newer elixir teflon coated strings seem more comfy and easy to play on than the usual nickel wound ones so I'd recommend giving those a try. besides your strings are probably due for a change anyway. and it does get easier over time as the calluses build up. the tendon hurting I dunno. I have that too but I play through it until I can't anymore, then I come back as soon as I feel able. I like to imagine everything's getting stronger all the time, and that the movements are different enough from the computer stuff that it's not contributing to any repetative stress thing but I dunno and I don't have the injuries you have to live with so just try and pay attention to that as much as possible. know the okay soreness vs. the damaging not okay kind, if that's possible. hopefully it is.
