local resource question

i need to go pick some green beans. maybe some blueberries too. does anyone know of a "U-Pick" sort of farm near the bay area?

i am currently munching on green beans from safeway - and they do not cut it. i grew up eating beans off the farm and out of our garden. this is by far a lame imitation.

in the short term, the produce store across Church next to the Blockbuster oh so close to Safeway has better produce than Safeway

Rainbow and organic places are good for short-term... otherwise, maybe call Rainbow and ask them if they know of any u-pick places. I had a flyer for one (which I picked up at the Rainbow street fair), but I tossed it a while ago and can't remember what they were called.
I grew up with garden produce, too, and oh man, the Safeway kind is like old plastic...

when i was a kid - we would go to the u-pick every coupla weeks as different things came in season

a seven year old and an entire field of strawberries/ blackberries/ raspberries / blueberries

i never left with a face that wasn't the color of whatever fruit we were picking

my mom was a canner though. we would pick like 50lbs or more of each fruit. i mean we would get there at 8am and be picking fruit in the hot sun until 2 or 3pm. once when sexy beast and i were home visiting we went blueberry picking. same thing. super fun at first. and by hour two it'all OK ALREADY, WE HAVE ENOUGH FRUIT.

but it is super fresh and way cheaper. rainbow is a grand idea - i'll ask em

Also try the farmer's markets. Both the Ferry Plaza and the Civic Center ones should have really good green beans at this time of year.
