QUEER OPEN MIC present Joel Tan this FRIDAY in SF!!!

Hey you crazy kids

It's true, the last official QOM of San Francisco 'summer' is coming to you THIS FRIDAY!!! Rounding out the dog days of summer Queer Open Mic looks to blow off some steam and rock the party like nobody with the amazing Joël Barraquiel Tan as the featured poet/performer/wordsmith/sensation on August 26th.



Show starts at 8pm SHARP! with the open mic sign up list starting at 7:30. All queers and allies are welcome and encouraged to rock out their very own five minutes or less of fame. FULL PERFORMER BIO:Joël Barraquiel Tan is the author of two volumes of poetry, Monster (Noice Press, '02) and Type O Negative (Red Hen Press, '06) and the editor of Inside Him--Gay Erotic Fiction (Carroll & Graf, '06) and Best Gay Asian Erotica (Cleis, '98 & '03). His essays, poetry, and short fiction have been published in various commercial and academic venues including: Asian American Sexualities (Routledge), Q& A: Queer & Asian in America (Temple), Fresh Men: New Voices in Gay Fiction (Carroll & Graf), On a Bed of Rice: An Asian American Erotic Feast (Doubleday).  His award-winning poetry has recently been translated in Italian and Russian and his writing has also been published internationally.  Joël received his B.A. from UC Berkeley in Ethnic Studies and his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Antioch University.  He is currently working on a collaboration project with award-winning composer Francis Wong and choreographer, Alleluia Panis on an opera entitled Savage, I and an NEA funded project, Sons with lauded poet Jaime Jacinto and promising young Filipino American poets.  In the little spare time he has, Joël daydreams about elephants and his Manila childhood and indulges in ridiculous reality TV.
